- 26 to 36 AD, PONTIUS PILATE !! Governor of JUDEA which
Sentenced JESUS CHRIST to Death on the Cross !!
Historical Context: This coin was minted in ANCIENT JUDEA between 26 to 36 BC when PONTIUS PILATE was the Governor (Prefect) of JUDEA. Pontius Pilate is best known in history for being the Governor that sentenced Jesus Christ to death on The Cross. He was supposedly a ruthless governor. He engineered a massacre of Samaritans and was later removed by Roman Emperor Tiberius as a result. He later attempted to evade responsibility in the trial of Jesus in part because of his fear of the high priests’ power. According to tradition he committed suicide at Rome, a fitting end. He is attested in the works of Josephus and Eusebius.Obv: Litius $34.95 plus shipping |
